Exciting New Bouldering Festival Poster Design

Drawings/illustrations, graphic design

Really excited to show you a new poster design that I created for a bouldering festival, coming soon in Dorset. It’s being held by The Project Climbing Centre in Poole, you can check out the event by heading over to their website: https://www.theprojectclimbingcentre.co.uk/the-big-weekend.

The projects big weekend poster design by paigecritchley.com

I really enjoyed creating this poster, I started by hand drawing elements and getting a feel for the sport by researching climbing and bouldering. I had a little desk set up at a co-working space right above this climbing centre for a few months and this meant I could really get a feel for what this sport was all about. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone and it was great to be asked to design this poster for them whilst I was there. Here are some images of the final design and process:

I hope you like this design. You can check out my other work by heading over to the portfolio tab on my website or by clicking here.

Why Human Touch Matters in Art

About Me, Drawings/illustrations, graphic design, print design

Hello!

There is something I want to talk about which has been all over everyone’s screens lately, and this is Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its involvement in art, particularly graphic design. AI is difficult to get away from nowadays and is taking over a lot of aspects of our visual world. Here is a brief explanation of my thoughts on AI and if it has any effect on my work. Just fyi, this is my own writing and not AI… you’ll just have to believe me on that one!

To put it plain and simple, I feel very strongly about art in its purest and rawest form. A human touch with any artwork I feel is very important, as it gives that artwork personality and connection with the artist. Putting my computer to one side and getting out raw materials such as pencils, paints and paper, is something I feel really passionate about. It’s a headspace that I love being in, and I can’t get it from anywhere else. My work has its own style and each design is unique because of this and I don’t want to lose that aspect to my work.

I am not going to say that my work is completely AI free, AI is now a massive part of graphic design, and it’s also largely integrated into the softwares I use to refine and develop my work. What I do want to make clear is that my designs are not going to be created purely from AI. In my opinion, new technology such as AI is a tool to help assist with certain aspects of the creative design process, I won’t be using it to replace my brain and its artistic abilities or halt my creative freedom.

I am quite shy behind the camera but I do often document my work and take photos of my design process. I’ve created a short documentation of my work in the images below for a project that I completed for Bleubird recently, an outdoor lifestyle brand based in Northern Ireland. This project was started from pencil to paper with my own initial research and brainstorming.

Fun Bow Tie Prints for Dogs: A Creative Journey

Drawings/illustrations, graphic design, print design

Hi to all my followers and a belated Happy New Year!

My favourite recent project that I want to tell you all about is prints for bow ties, but these aren’t for humans, they are for your furry friends. I really loved designing these for The Spotty Snout and I have recently been commissioned to design more, so watch this space! All of these prints were hand drawn and refined on Adobe Illustrator. One features happy skiing dogs (my personal favourite), another gingerbread and other sweet treats, and the third one is golf inspired.

Check out my favourite photos of the products below:

Prints for Sunborne - by paigecritchley.com

Vibrant Print Designs for Kidswear

Drawings/illustrations, graphic design, print design

Here are some fun and bright prints I designed for Sunborne, an outdoor lifestyle kidswear brand based in Australia.

I am very happy with how these turned out! Since I started out as a print and graphic designer I have always loved being able to experiment with colour and vibrancy. My favourite prints to create are the ones that are bold and stand out, especially if they are a little abstract.

I have to say, I love designing for Australian brands in the winter months, it’s a reminder that the sunshine is always out somewhere on this planet, despite the terrible weather we are having here in England at the moment. Can’t wait for summer!

Here are some of my favourites that I designed for the new collection:

Ocean ripple print designed by paigecritchley.com

New bright & colourful surface pattern designs for picnic blankets

Drawings/illustrations, graphic design, print design

I am excited to show you the new designs I have created for a well-established picnic blanket company in Australia – Saltwater Picnic Co. These have been launched recently and I am so happy with how they have turned out! The first print is a Mandala design that is licensable from my website. You can read how to license it and use it on your products here. It is one of my favourites and is featured on Saltwater Picnic Co’s picnic blanket in a beautiful and bright purple and yellow colour option:

The second print is the Ocean Ripple design- This particular design is a strong favourite of mine because I am always dipping/surfing in the ocean or heading to the pool for a swim. I was lucky enough to grow up by the ocean and I live very close to it now ~ it influences so much of my work. Read more about me and what else inspires my work by heading over to the ‘about me’ page on my website.

Thank you to @saltwaterpicnicco for hiring me to design these prints for you!

Design 3: The striped picnic blanket. Who doesn’t love a classic stripe! I love the simplicity of this design and the colour palette:

I hope you liked these designs!

Cat furniture artwork for The Refined Feline - designed by paigecritchley.com

Creative Cat Furniture Artwork Design

Drawings/illustrations, graphic design

Sometimes I get asked to create artwork for products I would never expect! These artworks were created for The Refined Feline, a company selling cat furniture for feline lovers. This project was so much fun, I got to work with a bunch of bright colours and abstract shapes – my favourite kind of project!

These artworks were created for cat scratching posts but sadly didn’t get to production stages. Thankfully though I have been given permission to share them with you. I hope you like them! See below the artwork and a visual mockup of how the product would have looked, had it of been launched.

Have a great day!

surf lifestyle prints for Ava and Oliver designed by paigecritchley.com

New Surf-Inspired Prints for Kidswear Brand

Drawings/illustrations, print design

Just dropped! New surf inspired prints for Ava & Oliver, a well-established kidswear brand based in Hawaii. I really loved this project as I am a surfer myself and had a lot of fun drawing these little characters. My favourite part was drawing the dogs surfing and playing around with their positions on the board. I have seen dogs surfing before and it doesn’t look easy! Saying that though, if you have 4 feet rather than 2 like us humans, it’s probably easier to balance!

Check out some of the product photos below. I am super happy with how the prints have turned out! It’s always so rewarding and satisfying to see my artwork printed on product for people to purchase.
